Raparin

This is our last week in Kurdistan! But we still have painting to do. And just our luck, it started raining on Monday...

We've been major hustling and trying to finish everything on time, painting in the rain and hail. Yes, hail. Cold, hard, whipping hail... The thing about paint and water: doesn't really stick well together. But today was a blessing from the sky, literally, as it did not rain at all. Sunshine all around!

We finished painting the Rehabilitation Center in Raparin!

For the design, we were inspired by the command-line flags hung around the center.

Even though it wasn't raining, it was freezing cold outside, so we couldn't ask the kids to come out and paint with us because we did not want to get them sick. Instead, we outlined the flags and left them some paint so that they could finish filling the colors in on a warm, sunny day.

But we did have two little helpers join in on the fun! Their parents came to pick them up and stopped by our painting station.

I'm dying. Can this get any cuter?

The art teacher is going to take over from there, we left her with buckets of paint and the outlines of the flags so the children can finish the mural and come to school everyday to be proud of their work. Go community involvement! I wish we had more time in Kurdistan so we could actually be there when the children paint, but the director will be recording the process and sending it to us. Stay tuned for more pictures!

Now, for the before and after effect:

 Ta-da!

Oh please, you're too kind.
